The fast air moving across it is feeding this band.
It is the same pool that kept Harvey intensifying all the way to landfall.
I was monitoring CAPE values of it when Harvey just left the Yucatan.
They were always in the 3500 to 5000 range.

I mean, I went swimming in Galveston last month, and the water was basically bathtub water. Ridiculously warm. I guess near the coast it's just high-octane hurricane fuel.

Here’s a map from just yesterday for the area.

NAM 3km had that attack on Harris County but I thought if it was right it would take longer to establish. We all knew Harvey would bring days and days of a tropical system at a strength and in a time of the year and pattern we haven't ever seen happen. This is Day 2 of ? A lot of people will experience issues across all of S and SE TX. Y'all keep your friends and loved ones informed. If that call of 18" in 18 hours comes into play, it's still probably going to rain for a few days. Unreal.

And all that water that was slightly cooled by Harvey is probably already warming back up.

Watching radar of that nasty band that has been pummeling the area from Houston down to San Luis Pass, and knowing it is slowing coming for ME in Texas City is like waiting for doom to fall!

Watching the Saints and Texans preseason game, and they said that the Texans were planning on returning to Houston tonight instead of flying to Dallas where they will be playing next Friday. I think they might change their minds before they go to Houston.

Did Harvey leave a cool wake at all?

This post was probably an opinion of mine, and in no way is official. Please refer to http://www.hurricanes.gov for official tropical analysis and advisories.

For those who want to monitor the Bayous and Creeks in Harris County (Houston). https://www.harriscountyfws.org/

SW Houston Bayous have already topped their banks are at or near record flood stages.

Just north and west of downtown, rain has been hard with lots of lightning and thunder. The lighting and thunder have moved on a bit but rain still heavy.

KDP is an acronym which confusingly represents the polarimetric radar variable "specific differential phase". KDP is highly correlated with liquid water content (more so than Reflectivity) and thus rainfall rates. Consequently high KDP values indicates areas of large concentrations of rain drops resulting in high liquid water content and rainfall rates(it is also related to drop size/oblateness but is concentration dependent unlike ZDR).

PWAT stands for "precipitable water" and it is a metric measuring the total moisture content of a column (specifically the depth of liquid water if all the water vapor in the column were condensed)

In a nustshell the atmosphere is juiced for heavy rain, and these storms are delivering it.

Houston: SH-288 at Holly Hall is flooding. Channel 2 showing dumb people driving through it. 288 floods frequently and people often end up getting flooded out. Can't believe people are driving through there now!

Judging water depth during the day is next to impossible.
Judging water depth at night IS impossible.
Driving through rushing water in any situation is stupid.

Floods are going to get a lot worse, IMO, before they get better. Texas is in for a long ride. Kudos to the NWS guys putting in a heck of an effort saving lives in TX. Major, major kudos.
