What's remarkable is how all the channels in flood are quite far upstream. That's a lot of water to flush out through the watersheds, especially as rain bands appear to be continuing to redevelop south of Houston. Going to be a very long night and next few days.

Looking at HRRR, it fills in the “gap” with heavy storms and basically has this sitting over Houston all night. Looks reasonable and radar seems to indicate that is happening as we speak. It drops 17” over Houston the next 18 hours. If that verifies... it would be awful.

The thunder and lightning have started already, but the heavy rain hasn't quite gotten to me yet.

With what is over Houston right now it looks like it could be 40 inches in 18 hours, that looks like storms that is dumping 3 to 4 inches an hour.

We just got a break in rain for a few minutes and went out to check on things. Tonight's rain started about 8:45 p.m. and I emptied the rain gauge at 10:30 p.m. We had 5 inches in that time. Crazy. Glad for this break.

Listening to Houston Fire Dispatch, there are dozens of high water rescue situations going on by the sound of it. Just a moment ago a few engines were having a hard time finding an accessible route to one of the rescues.

I hope when people in Houston see floodwaters, they turn around and not make the mistakes of the ones who drive through anyway. And I lost track how many tornadoes Harvey has produced, especially near and around Houston, Freeport and Galveston. Also, there was a convey of first responders, military vehicles, charter buses and machinery spotted on I-35 earlier heading to Rockport and other affected areas. https://www.facebook.com/KSAT12/videos/ ... The ramp and US 290 and TX 99 is going to be shut down, per county police radio a truck tipped over in the heavy rain and dumped nails all over the road.

That is really intense! The forecast of 40 inches of rain is not so far-fetched.

Unfortunately the models calling for the flood disaster in Houston and surrounding areas are going to verify. I fear a lot of homes that have never flooded will during this event. No signs of the torrential rainfall stopping here for at least the next several hours.

Update on US 290 and TX-99 the entire interchange is going to be barricaded due to debris from tipped over trucks.
This major interchange will be closed at least through the night.
