St.Maarten/Princess Juliana airport is completely destroyed, the terminal roof is scattered onto the runway with a good few ft of seawater surge flooding all of the airport complex. Runway has been ripped to shreds by the surge looking at the pictures coming out on twitter.

I read alot on here and have been a forum member for years, just don't post often. I just wanted to thank everyone on here for always being polite and courteous with each other. You won't see this kind of respect on other weather forums or any forums in general. I'm in NC, east of Raleigh by the I95 corridor. Hubby and I went to Walmart earlier and we're glad to see people taking this storm seriously. Many walked by as my husband bought yet another shotgun (he has enuff!) and asked the clerk where batteries were and where where flashlights etc. We bought 25 cases of water (they were on sale for $1.79 no limits and they had pallets after pallets of them!) Our generator fired up on the first pull! Gosh I hope we aren't forgetting anything. Anywho, the stores are already getting swamped here. How is it going for yall in other states? I'm sure Floridians are getting prepared.

Thanks guys!!!! Yall always have each other's backs and have genuine concern for others. Hugs!

Not sure if this was posted anywhere on here but DAMN.

Self-described aviation geek Jason Rabinowitz (@AirlineFlyer) was keeping tabs on commercial flights near Hurricane Irma when he noticed on Delta flight headed for Puerto Rico was headed right into the arms storm. Here's how it looked on flight radar.

I'm sure these planes are not flyable anymore...

This is my first ever post here on Storm 2K!! Been on site since Charley here in Orlando and want to say this is the best forum out there!! Thanks for keeping us informed on whats going on as this is a dangerous situation for all here in the mainland. Wanted to ask since im no expert what type of winds would we realistically feel here in Orlando. Fox35 said at least 100mph earlier in morning. Wanted to see how valid that statement was. Keep up the good work guys doing great.

From NHC, about 25% probability as of now of hurricane force winds.

Seems late Sunday night and early Monday is when our worst weather will be near us.

Yeah raw numbers are finally starting to catch up with reality that Irma is a powerful cat-5 hurricane.

At 917mbs Irma is the strongest hurricane Dean in 2007 which got down to 905mbs. Wouldn't be shocked to see that getting challenged in the next 96hrs, especially if it avoids Cuba over those exceptionally hot waters south of Florida.

I'm no pro-met, but the GFS model run from this morning that showed it basically coming on shore at Miami as a Cat 4/5 before exiting and riding the coast up and landfall in Savannah... that looked to me like just about the worst we could ask for... all that surge and beach erosion for the entire west coast of florida, severe wind impacts for Miami and everywhere, really. Plus Savannah is a pretty delicate city that had several severe storms in the 1800s but aside from Matthew last year (which tore it up pretty badly), it has been spared for a long time.

That is so sad to hear; Princess Juliana airport was always one of the most picturesque airports in the Caribbean. My thoughts are with everyone who had been, or will be in the path of Irma. :(

Cloud tops looking like they're trying to take the next step up on BD imagery. CMGs have almost built a complete ring.

What's a CMG?

(I know a CME is a coronal mass ejection but I'm pretty sure this is unrelated.)

Is Luis/cycloneye in San Juan, or another location in Puerto Rico? I sure am thinking about all the folks there and hoping for the best for all of them.

Cold Medium Gray. Part of the Dvorak overlay scale, I believe.

CMG stands for cold medium grey which is the second coldest temperature a storms cloud top can reach, CDG (Cold Dark Grey) being the coldest. It signifies an extremely intense storm.

There's some CDG in the western eye wall which is indicating intensification
