I can't even imagine what 40-50 inches would do to the infrastructure.

I live in Port Arthur and we have been getting steady rain since late last night with heavy bands mixed in. My neighborhood is doing okay, but the last bout of hard rain had a good portion of the surrounding streets up over the curbs. We generally flood less than some of the neighborhoods around us though so I'm sure there has been some water in homes already. At this moment we are in a lull which should let the drainage catch up a little bit.

Do you have any friends in the area with flat-bottom boats?

On another note, do you guys think the Navy will deploy a couple of ships and start using RHIBs to assist with CG/FD/PD water rescues?

Watching Fox News channel. They reported a few minutes ago that Coast Guard helicopters are being deployed from all over the nation to Houston.

Parts of Houston may catch a brief break but waters are still rising so I doubt this makes much of an impact. Storms appear to be rebuilding in the gilf as well.

This is absolutely mind-blowing. I wish they'd put out a call in our county to send manpower south, I'd be on the first truck down. I hate watching things like this and feeling so powerless.

I'm in Orange and we've gotten the rain and the usual street and creek flooding. Driving is not advisable, but this has not yet become catastrophic or even terribly unusual. But this is the point we're usually about to dry up. We're looking at two to four more days of heavy rain, so who knows before the end of the week? The greatest concern in this area are Lake Livingston and Toledo Bend damns being forced to release additional water. They were already pretty high.

Hopefully, not for long. It seems like it's already getting Gulf moisture now, so I don't know what would happen if it reemerges.

If so, have them call 713-881-3100. They do say they need to have life vests, etc all.
