Not sure on the numbers but the 18z Navgem shifted east again to about the same location as 12z UK

NAVGEM hits Vermilion Bay near Abbeville at 90 hours. Plausible but that seems a bit far to the east for 2nd landfall to me. Not out of the question though.

We are finally getting in on some of the rain today as the expanded bands have been bringing up moisture. Hopefully it's spread out over the next several days as we should get 7+ in the vicinity. I think people from Houma back to Port Arthur need to be cognizant of tornados and training bands either N/S and ones hooking into the center that are only rotating in rather than around.

The reservoirs are full, so if they release now between rain bands it will just keep the rivers at their current peak? Tomorrow Harvey may be pumping more rain.

Official news conference...been watching on abc13 from Houston, says levees may be breached, and residents near by are being told about evacuations.

My wife had the Facebook feed for ABC13 in Houston on for quite a while, and in addition to local gov't responders, there is a tremendous effort by local residents not too badly affected (for the most part) to help out those badly affected by Harvey, regardless of skin color, race, etc., in this period before outside gov't agencies can bring their assets fully to bear. Compared to all the over-attention usually given to a relatively tiny number of nutcases on both extremes, this is very heartwarming in the midst of so much / so many losses from this storm. The US is not perfect, but it really IS a great country, with a lot of great people.

I couldn't agree more and kudos to the Houston media for spotlighting those folks and assisting when possible. I'm mostly amazed by the social media posts, people getting rescued via Facebook..... :flag:

Next band setting up west of Houston looks to be a nasty one. Not moving fast at all and only getting more intense.

How long do you suspect that band will continuously hit houston?

I am by no means an expert and it tough to say with conditions changing into the evening. I would look at a local radar or ask one of the pros on here.

Rain starting again on this camera, but water levels have dropped maybe 5 inches since peak earlier today.

As they just mentioned on the the weather channel, lots of dry air pouring in from the west. I doubted them initially until they showed the map. It's definitely dry air, and the amount of rain west of Houston is much less and intense. I agree that it's definitely still going to rain, but the real widespread prolific torreential rains should be over. I think even when it moves off shore, it's still going to be fighting the dry air, so that is a bit of good news

Based on that radar, in my opinion, Houston is about to get 5+ more inches with that band

GFS shows dry air in it's runs but precip is still extreme. I'm not sure there's a correlation between dry air offshore and land based precip.

the lack of rain near and west of the center is to be expected. Heavy rain will continue to fall east of the center where the flow is onshore and there is isentropic upglide.
