Dry air SHOULD keep him in check. Then again, this is Harvey we're talking about....

Since this is Harvey, would anybody be shocked to see him regain hurricane status?

Is this to Katrina level in new Orleans? Seems like it.

It looked like he was starting to refire the last satellite loop I saw, with some convection starting fire up around the LLC.

Just checked again, I don't see any convection, at this point, developing around that center of circulation off the coast.

I guess I wouldn't be shocked, but I can confirm the dry air has certianly kept the rain down today in Beaumont.

GOES16 visible loop: https://weather.us/satellite/texas/sate ... .html#play

naked swirl. Dry air and shear are now in abundance. Will keep him below cane status IMO though that's not much help for Houston. They're stuck under deformation banding now. Awful situation but I guess it COULD be worse.

For the first time, seeing some of the t-storm blow ups along the coast of Texas beginning to venture out into the gulf north of Harvey's center. Even if Harvey never truly regains his full tropical characteristics, I think an expansive wind field over the gulf from a former major hurricane suggests 65 mph or so at a second landfall. Just my opinion.

If that moisture moving south across TX can wrap into the center of the storm and cut off the dry air supply, agree cane status possible. Until then, I'm skeptical https://weather.us/satellite/texas/sate ... .html#play

Local mets have been talking about dry air out west for 2 days and Harvey keeps pulling more moisture. I get that they are technically correct, but just need to quit talking about it on air because it is making them look ridiculous as it keeps raining all day and night. Especially the KPRC met.

Depends on if he can wrap convection around him, we'll see if shear prevents it though.

Not sure how necessary that is. That would be if he was purely tropical. Don't think that's the case anymore. He's been sucking in air from up north, and looks like he's becoming a traditional low separating two air masses. The drier air to the north and the juice (tropical to the south). Anyway, looks sub-tropical to me. Could see him becoming a large formidable storm in the NE GOM. Maybe 65 mph over a large area.

Agreed. Don't like the looks of the large wind field from an ex-major in the NE GOM.
