Agreed. Don't like the looks of the large wind field from an ex-major in the NE GOM.

Just too much drag from being over land, I think. Harvey still looks kind of organized, but look at current pics and compare to Harvey at Cat 3, and you'll see he's a fraction of his former self. What he'll gain over the ocean he should lose over land, and the difference in terrain from one end of him to the other should trip him up a little--kind of the way it'd trip you up if you were trying to ice-skate on a rink where a third of the ice was missing.RL3AO wrote:BYG Jacob wrote:Since this is Harvey, would anybody be shocked to see him regain hurricane status?
Yes. I would be.
This doesn't stop him from dumping masses of rain on Texas, of course.

Yes, they keep yapping about it, plenty of moisture at the lower levels to make rain in this setup..they do the viewers a disservice by not explaing it...justin stapleton is good, frank billingsly isn't...sorry to our friends in houston he is a lead metsouthwest southerner wrote:Local mets have been talking about dry air out west for 2 days and Harvey keeps pulling more moisture. I get that they are technically correct, but just need to quit talking about it on air because it is making them look ridiculous as it keeps raining all day and night. Especially the KPRC met.

stormreader wrote: Not sure how necessary that is. That would be if he was purely tropical. Don't think that's the case anymore. He's been sucking in air from up north, and looks like he's becoming a traditional low separating two air masses. The drier air to the north and the juice (tropical to the south). Anyway, looks sub-tropical to me. Could see him becoming a large formidable storm in the NE GOM. Maybe 65 mph over a large area.
Don't think that's the case, I think he's getting sheared.

Doppler estimated storm totals from Galveston radar. It was like Harvey had threw a dart and hit Houston right in the middle of the dart board.

Not sure... a lot of mid-to-upper level dry air wrapping around the CoC. Almost looks post-tropical on satellite. I could see 50 mph though.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Tropical Storm - Discussion
A chemical leak emergency is prompting orders for La Porte, Shoreacres, and Baytown, Texas residents to take cover and turn off their air conditioning and heating systems. This, as the Lone Star State deals with the emergency needs of the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
The chemical is anhydrous hydrogen chloride, which can cause eye, throat and nasal irritation, according to La Porte police.
The shelter in place order covers areas around State Highways 146 and 225. Deer Park is not affected by the order, according to KTRK.
"Close all doors and windows and turn off heating or cooling systems," an emergency La Porte city notice said. "Stay off the phone so you can receive updates from Emergency Officials."
Harris County Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued an emergency message saying the La Porte Fire Department was "working on a leak from a pipeline in the area of HWY 225 and HWY 146."
A chemical spill at a Valero plant is the reported source of the emergency, according to KPRC.
La Porte police are responding to the spill, KPRC reported.
La Porte is about 26 miles east of Houston and has a population of approximately 35,000

This monster just won't die. I'm physically sick watching this but having been through it with Sandy, I can't look away

Depends on the exact place I think. Some small creeks are lower, most larger rivers are higher.
