you're correct Weather Guesser in that what has made Irma such an historic and remarkable tropical cyclone is that she's been able to maintain CAT5 strength for so long because she's taking a path where she has amazingly avoided major land interaction within the Greater Antillies, especially Hispaniola. It unfortunately has been the perfect path for Irma to unleash her deadly fury
She will get very close to Cuba just prior to making the north turn, but I think Irma's inner core will not penetrate into Cuba to disrupt her inner core. I believe Irma will landfall as a Cat 5 in Florida.
