@icycloneye was in florida city but sounds like he's going to the naples area....that might ultimately be better than the keys unless you want a surge event where keys will be best...problem with the lower keys is once you are there you are stuck since roads will be impassable until water recedes and debris cleared and you need to be 20 ft above sea level which is difficult unless you can hunker down with a local..west coast will be better because you can find the eye, get in it and be mobile afterwards plus much more to film as far as damage, etc, i know it sounds morbid and dangerous to some but that's how it rolls in that world..i drove up to palm beaches with a friend during the peak of frances, we decided not to go any further, only other vehicles we saw on 95 were police and media...pulled off the road, saw debris flying and came back to fll

Not sure of the height of the Key West bridge, but if the surge hits it, it in most likelyhood will be gone... Ivan and Katrina took out 4 major bridges as I recall... Pensacola 1, MS coast 2 and Slidell over the Lake P 1... any bridge susceptable to surge most likely will be gone with this storm

I think we should have a separate thread for other countries affected. I'm trying to find more info on the other islands that got hit worser but is inundated by a U.S state landfall which always gets more attention. Anyone thought of this?

It's so disrespectful.

I pray that anyone in this hurricanes path is either out of there or, or prepared. My aunt and uncle are staying in the David area, in a well built house, and my other aunt& uncle are staying in Orlando with her 3 kids (One 5th grader, and 2 3rd graders, one with Cerebral Palsy). My other uncle has been ordered by his restaurant to STAY INSIDE THE RESTAUANT ON DELRAY BEACH DURING THE STORM!!!!!!! Is there anything last minute that I should tell any of them?

Here is a good site to check. Find the island(s) you are interested in on the right side to get updates from people there.

Life is more important, you can't be ordered around. Your uncle should protect his life so he can get a new job once it's all over.

It's not too late to get off the Keys!!! You still have time, this morning, to get out! Please, the Keys are not safe. #FLkeys #Irma

I just looked at my FB group from the Keys....there are definitely quite a few folks in KW who are pretty freaked out and are trying to evacuate now. Here's the kicker....most of them didn't fuel up their cars before KW ran out of gas. It's looking pretty grim at the moment.

Chris Capp had some YouTube videos he's been posting. Most recent is an hour ago.

Indeed. This is a life threatening event, plain and simple. If it is his job versus his life, the choice is easy.

On another note, I am currently in the air, bound for Atlanta.

The main point here for the masses of people (and even weather buffs) is the psychology and quite normal human perception of what is going on.

Perception: Irma---all-time great storm 185 mph Cat 5 for days threatens Fl. But after hitting Cuba, only a Cat 4 with 130 mph. Better off, we can relax, whew, we thought we were going to get destroyed there.

Reality: Irma Cat 4 (extremely destructive hurricane) coming off Cuban coast, official forecast by NHC to be a 150 mph hurricane at landfall in SW Fl.
A 150 mph hurricane--Top end Cat 4!! And it really could come in a little stronger than that. But 150 mph is the forecast. An incredibly strong storm.

With the advanced collapse of the eye, I don't understand how she could feasibly intensify back into a 4 or a 5.

But that's why I'm paid exactly nothing for my opinion.

Cuba can't be having a very good time.

Some channels saying that Broward and Miami were spared and conditions should be coming back to normal by Monday.

Wow.

That image illustrates what I think about smaller and perhaps very tightly wound up storm coming off the coast of Cuba. It looks like you could really get a ramp up quickly with a structure like that. Smaller, and very mean, coming into SW Fl.

Radar shows the eyewall is still closed and the structure is good. I could see it re-intensifying back into a mid-grade 4, before making landfall as a 125mph Cat 3. Just IMO, of course.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

It is a 4 now! 130 mph with a pressure lower than when Harvey hit the Texas coast. The eye has not collapsed. With pressure and winds like that, there eye is still right there...Look at the sat image from way up in space. Look at the eye! Observe the smaller, yet tightly wound structure of a storm that for all intents and purposes is back out into the open waters again. Its going to strengthen. NHC says to 150 mph. Believe me, there's an eye.

Please pay attention to the NHC and your local NWS office. I have no idea what conditions will be like in southeast Florida. It all depends on the final track and size of the storm.
