All ECMWF ensembles show significant intensification once #Irma leaves Cuba. Even though storm is slightly weaker, won't be for long.

Also, Irma has been on the right side of the ensemble means, something to point out.

Check out the basin water vapor. Storm is now...slamming that front with its outflow. Really impressive.

Drone Footage Shows Desolate Miami Beach as Hurricane Irma Nears
Normally a tourist hotspot bustling with activity, Miami Beach was all but abandoned Friday evening as Hurricane Irma approaches.

Looks like a WNW movement on radar out of Key West now. Convection looks a bit better organized around the center. Should start cranking up again as more of the circulation clears Cuba.....MGC

Not a good situation unfolding. Irma could easily RI before landfall. Could be devastating for the Tampa bay area, as well as the rest of Florida. It is already stronger than Wilma was at landfall in Florida, and it's moving back onto warm water.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

I was really impressed and astonishing how last night Irma hit the Cuban coast and I swear it looked like she hit land and was like no way am I going ashore and bounced off. I know it was the ridge but was very impressive!

Storm surge threat to Fl west coast is the major change today. Can't be stressed enough. And, if storm strengthens more than forecast, those posted surge amounts are liable to be higher than are currently posted. The wind event is also now much different. If you get a strengthening Cat 4 moving farther up along the west coast---I know conditions might not be ideal, further north, but a strengthening system off the Ft Myers area is going to carry a very large wind event up toward Tampa, if that more westerly forecast bears out. Its going to be a lot stronger in the Tampa area than was thought even yesterday.

Like others have said, Irma's structure is looking great, she's starting to pull a bit more Northward now, away from Cuba and into some of the greatest heat content in the Atlantic. No bueno.

Live in homestead, fl and about an hour ago gust came through here and snapped tree on the west side and it isn't over yet. Just an FYI about winds and rains on the southern end of Florida.
