I have my car parked on the north side of my house parallel. It'll be an easterly wind off the water so I hope nothing blows in between.

Keys, 155 mph
Homestead 102 mph
Miami, 96-100 mph
Ft Lauderdale, 90 mph
West Palm Beach, 90 mph
Naples, 130 mph
Marco Island, 140 mph
Ft Myers, 125 mph
Sarasota, 100 mph
Tampa/St Pete, 90 mph (surprisingly low)
Orlando, 105 mph (strong right quadrant)
Daytona, 90+ mph
Ocala, 100 mph
Gainesville, 84 mph
Jacksonville, 90-100 mph (highest along the beach)

Some of these wind gusts might be a bit conservative if it really restrengthens before tomorrow noon. IMO.

NWS has Hudson, Fl (about 25 miles north of Tampa) gusting to 130 on 9/11 at 0400

This storm means business. That's really high for a storm still just coming off the Cuban coast. Tremendous latent energy with the system since coming off the African coast. No doubt there was lot of destruction in Cuba. Lets say the storm becomes as forecast a solid to top end Cat 4.....expect really high gusts, perhaps higher than one might expect with a storm of that intensity. I think its going to be ferocious through the keys, Naples and Ft. Myers.

Has recon flown into her since her recent apparent convection blow up?

In their 1 pm position update they reported there was a 159 mph gust earlier today in Cuba... wow!

Gotta say, I'm quite impressed with how well developed the CDO looks right now, maybe a little better than earlier despite all the land interaction. I'll not clutter the thread with my amateur personal thoughts on any re-intensification, but nevertheless I've seen storms affected quite a bit more by Cuba than this one.

Difficult situation with hurricane hits. Every storm that falls well short of expectations causes complacency and likely increases the potential death toll of the next big one to hit the same area... not like strong hurricane landfalls are a positive thing though... there really isn't much of a best case outcome other than literally never having a hit.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Thanks for the suggestion. Talking it over right now. Hubs thinks he has an idea of something he could "rig up" to work!

If it does, I'll take a pic. If it doesn't...I guess I won't have a garage anymore (or maybe a house)

It already has a core and eyewall. In fact, I see a concentric eyewall structure from the Key West radar.

I am shocked by the strengthening that Irma is already undergoing, despite still being negatively impacted by Cuba. It is feeding off of the water temperatures and instability, and that trend should only get more extreme as it passes the Florida straights.

What do you think of the movement? Still WNW or do you think it's beginning to turn as some suggested?

I was able to put my car in the garage with Charley, and set a sheet of plywood flush against the door with the car used as a brace, but now garage's loaded with stuff from Husband's business! Wanna make sure it doesn't blow open and leave my house vulnerable to the storm.

A google search only brings me to commercial products people want to sell you. Well, I think it's a little late to find them today!

Anybody got any ideas?

You can always parallel park a vehicle sideways in front of it. At least it would act as something of a wind break...

Yeah, we're planning to do that, too!

Most people on my block paralleld park as i did too. Also, check to see if you have a hurricane garage door. You have to do a quick setup, mine took about 10 mins. Look for an instruction sticker on the door.

Where might I find this information?

Here is their twitter feed, might be in the video. I do not see a press release.

https://twitter.com/BrowardCounty

Palm Beach County is 3:00 PM
For reasons obvious to anyone who lives here, it's kind of an overreaction at this point. Better safe than sorry.
I too fear that in the future some people will ignore warnings after Matthew and Irma.
