Reasonable shot at a major. Has any major hit the Panhandle since Dennis and Ivan in 05? I can’t seem to remember.

The wind profile is much better defined. Keep in mind the strongest winds are likely in the NE quadrant due to the direction of motion. That will be sampled last of three center fixes, according to the flight plan. All signs point to continued intensification, and possibly further RI.

Long WV loop. Shear (winds) should change to out of the SW on the west side of the storm before long.

Official forecast calls for 85kt at 0600z, that might be right on the money

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

I may be partially responsible for Michael's latest round of intensification. it seems to have commenced right after I used the adjectives large, loose and sloppy in an earlier description of the system. The latter 2 no longer apply. It will be interesting to see if we can get a period of persistent organization and intensification or even RI. It appears we're in the hunt again..

Looks like going mostly north. Are the s.w. winds mentioned, keeping it from going more n.w?

That’s right. I knew Ivan was 04 but Dennis which I think hit Santa Rosa County would have been the last one. Seems crazy to have gone 13 years since a major hurricane landfall in the FL Panhandle. Not saying Michael will be a 3, but there is a reasonable shot.

Florida went 11 years without any hurricanes, so not too crazy.

Dennis didn't do too much damage, I drove through Navarre Beach shortly after Dennis, there was minimal damage near Hwy 98 because it had such a small core and I believe it was weakening some before landfall.

yeah and once the 11 year streak broke it looks like we're starting a new streak of consecutive years with hits. nature has a way of balancing things out over time

. But the fact that Florida went 11 years without a hurricane at all is down right right crazy! I didn’t realize that! Is that a record? Was that the gap between Wilma and Matthew?
