That looks like some kind of mid-level eddy. I think there is a very broad center (which I circled) with various swirls rotating around it:

Considering it's present state, it looks like the real news is all of the rain. Florida has been hammered for the last 10 days and looking at radar.... Not good. Many rivers are near Crest already

I'm also not a meteorologist, but I think that's the MLC, which is trying to work down to the surface.

It's also moving a lot more quickly off to the NE.

All in the mid levels. pay attention to near the NE of the Yucatan. Also if that llc/vort starts to develop convection. either way a quick reformation and or motion north as this upper trough/low bottoms out and starts to negatively tilt. its happening pretty quickly now.

On the one hand I'm surprised this developed as soon as it did, but I think this could inhibit future intensification as well since now that there's an established circulation and apparent increasing distance from the MLC (with a stiff flow out of the east beneath it) it won't be able to consolidate much further.

Kinda surprised that the nhc classified this Alberto as ill defined as it is, but heck, they name winter storms now :spam: Nevertheless, it should develop during the weekend and could get close to hurricane status if he encounters favorable conditions for a time. Hoping the rain gets pulled west away from east central Florida!

Will history repeat itself? Below is video of recon. plane (WC 130 H) flying along the coast , through the "eye" of T S Alberto at East Destin, FL in 1994, at apporoximately 1500 ft. altitude. Landfall pressure 993 mb, max winds 65 mph.
