Center is only about 25 miles south of Mobile Bay. Gordon's heaviest squalls are already inland. I see a 35kt wind on the eastern end of Dauphin Island, 25 miles north of the center.

Latest Vortex:
At least 65 mph storm for sure. 70mph is reasonable now.

Here in Pensacola (Bellview) I've had just over 1.5 inches of rain in the last hour and 3 inches in the last 4 hours and it's still pouring.

Raining pretty good here in Pace as well. Had about 3 inches in the last 2 hours.

It would be pretty funny if the strongest surface wind ob from the entire storm came from South Florida.

With the most recent obs, the current 60 kt intensity looks appropriate with 63 kt FL winds at 700mb, accounting for uncertainty. The SFMR wouldn't be too helpful, and a 65 kt SFMR reading I wouldn't read automatically as a hurricane given the shoaling.

I'd doubt it...
Drop just showed 67mph surface winds and 82 mph boundary layer wind

A little gusty and rainy here in Mobtown (aka Mobile), but it’s nothing we don’t see in a good summer storm. I imagine it’s quite a bit windier right along the coastline.

A dropsonde recorded 60kt winds at the surface. So, let's stop saying this isn't at least a 70mph storm, shall we?
