Evacuations for Hurricane Florence are underway in South Carolina as some highway lanes are reversed to increase the flow of traffic away from Charleston and the SC coast.

i love this but i would like one that shows at least the eastern half of the us so i can long track it. but decent zoom with the long and latitude. sorry don’t mean to be picky. goes 13 was easier for me. i honestly haven’t read how to use the goes16 yet.
COD does this, except for the zoom.
It's just coming into view of this regional section.

Levi mentions the PV streamer Flo is interacting with.
However, it looks as if she is slowly trying to breakaway from it.
If so, it would be very conducive for additional strengthening.

As far fetched as a SW motion along the coast might seem, Florence has already had a history of traveling SW for extended periods of time. Perhaps the background pattern is such, that when a ridge gets reinforced, it is happening sharply.

This is goes16, but very straightforward, and you might find it useful:

You can also click other bands, like "07 Shortwave IR" at night, for example.

This helps explain the cone. What it is and what it isn’t.

Looks like recon tonight will arrive at perfect timing. I expect them to find 125-130kt winds

Does anyone in Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach or Kure beach own a home or business that has something similar to this? If so, I’d like to set up my wind measuring equipment please. Thanks!

Models changing sounds a lot like the setup behind what happened with Betsy 1965 with it turning more north slowing down and then the blocking high forcing it back southwest. Happening farther north of course so not affecting same people.

I'm pretty well agreed with that estimate. I'm thinking 125-130kts is most likely, but I do think there is a chance it might be higher. Considering they found 143kts flight level in the NE Quad earlier, I think convection might be strong enough now to more effectively bring those winds to the surface. If it's going to hit Cat 5, I think tonight is the window.
