I mean at this point it doesn't massively matter, all quads have 115kts at the surface now, it's spread it's winds out across the whole eyewall. That's one real nasty eyewall!

That storm chaser is taking a risk...There could be surge that he might have trouble outrunning...I can't believe this intensified as much as it did in October climatology...Mexico Beach is going to take a wack for sure...

So probably 923mbs, pretty much the same as Andrew now! Very similar storm to Andrew in many ways as well, hope we don't find cat-5 reports post operational like with Andrew.

SFMR values are quite low compared to flight-level winds, but SFMR is probably unreliable when the system is very near the coast. Intensity likely between 125 and 130 knots. Central pressure continues to drop to 923 mb though.

You can hear what appears to be wind hitting the building that the WJHG newscast is taking place in.

@JackSillin — Mesoscale vorticies are much less prominent in recent radar scans compared to even a half hour ago weather.us/radar-us/861-w…. This is NOT a sign of weakening! In fact, it may be just the opposite, as this change in structure indicates #Michael is continuing to consolidate its power
