Not in this case. The feed was from a camera in the car, which had been abandoned and was just getting pushed around by the waves. It eventually cut out.

1 mph from Cat 5 threshold. It will be up to NHC , but at this point it really does not matter. Micahel will go down sadly as a devastating killer cyclone, one of the worst ever storms I fear in history in the Atlantic basin when it is all said and done.

@RyanMaue — #HurricaneMichael has made landfall in Mexico Beach Florida ... winds were increased to 135-knots (155-mph) -- the absolute top of Category 4. 136-knots (156-mph) is Category 5.
Central Pressure is 919 mb ... this is pretty much a textbook Category 5 hurricane

SFMR readings won't be the best estimate due to shoaling. But 152 kt winds at flight level support cat 5, as do radar velocities.

Brett's stream was horrifying, I've never seen anything like that. The 00z 3km NAILED landfall intensity last night at 919mb, also unbelievable. Historic day across the board.

Most of Tyndall AFB and Davis Beach are in the eye currently...wow.. Mexico Beach is still in the eyewall. Landfall: 155mph, 919 mb.. Edit: Mexico Beach is very close to the eye.

A lot of those cameras are mounted to things and battery powered. They could broadcast long after the chaser is gone.

I don't ever remember a storm strengthening like this all the way until the eye was halfway ashore, or at least, not one where we could prove it. Unbelievable to see the broadcasts live from a true ~150mph storm.

Mexico beach just took a full blast by the strongest eyewall of a boarderline CAT4/5 hurricane. Entire town maybe wiped off by now.

not always, since sometimes they must abandon the camera...like this time, in which I believe Adair left the cam in the car as he made a dash to safety to escape the surge. Lets pray for him and that he makes it through safely!!
