If that verifies post-storm analysis that is a Cat. 5. Wow, wow wow!

I don't remember ever seeing that before, and I thought they just issued hurricane warnings for landfalls. The only extreme wind warnings I've seen before were for non-tropical systems.
If I remember right, this is a a relatively new deal. I was in high school when Ivan came through Bama and I vaguely remember them issuing a blanket tornado warning when landfall came around

1. Brett is part of the Live Storm Chasing Team and they had chaser trucks stretched from PCB to Pt St Joe.
2. Brett was the furthest east in PSJ, but the coordinator asked him to come up to Mex Beach. You could tell he wasn't sure about and asked a few questions about conditions especially surge.
3. They finally agreed to head to MB, but stopped to check out conditions in a neighborhood halfway.
4. The coordinator called again and sounded a bit upset because they weren't at MB yet.
5. They weren't in MB for more than 10 minutes before the surge started. His partner (passenger) panicked and opened the door to jump out. Brett yelled at him not to go and told him "worst thing you can do", but he went anyway.
6. Never did hear Brett actually leave the truck, but assume he did since there was no human sound inside the truck after that.
7. I am quite sure the footage is in a data cloud somewhere.
Hoping for the best.
Sheesh. That coordinator needs ... something.

I don't think there are any concrete structures of substance there. Why would they send him?

I watched the video, there were powerlines and debris flying all over the place before the surge started.
There really was no escape at all.

Adair had already canvassed Mexico Beach earlier this morning looking for a concrete structure.
Finding none, he proceeded to Port St. Joe.
Whoever the jackass "coordinator" is, this is on him.
