Thank you everyone for your input and concern! My friend texted me 25 minutes ago and said they were leaving to go inland to her son's. I only hope they don't get stuck on the road or worse.

Not sure if it was my barrage of texts or the info about Topsail (where they lived prior to Pamlico Sound) that did it.

Thanks again. Prayers to everyone in the path.

Even 1 million miles from Earth, the Atlantic looks pretty busy. The @NASA EPIC camera on @NOAA's #DSCOVR satellite captured this breathtaking view of #HurricaneFlorence, Hurricane Helene, Tropical Storm Isaac and Subtropical Storm Joyce. Not sure, but they have some military stuff around there (Naval touch and go fields and bombing ranges in the north section, and Cherry Point is near Havelock in the south section.) On the other hand, there's a section of Chesapeake Bay shaded like that, maybe it's just how their shading in shallow brackish water turns outs.

It has been misquoted. It was quoted as a storm of a lifetime for some areas in the Carolinas.

I wont go onto every storm ..but Katrina hit as a ? When talking about this storm they are talking about the surge and flooding ..NC and SC have the Appalachian mountains that will shed all that rain water across the state right back toward the areas that are already flooded ...Tbink Floyd type flooding across NC and SC and Katrina type storm surge across a very large part of the NC coast ...

You never know exactly what will happen ..but when they had it as a huge Cat4 stalled just inland for 2 days

That is a storm of a lifetime.

The rivers drain in a SE direction in the Carolinas. I would estimate that the Neuse, White Oak, Cape Fear and Pee Dee River basins will flood the worst. The Tar drains the area north and east of Raleigh (it doesn't even reach to the mountains,) and the Roanoke drains the NC/VA line.

12z Euro is still persistent in Florence tracking SW right along or just offshore from Wilmington down to at least Myrtle Beach between tomorrow morning and Saturday morning before finally coming ashore between Charleston and Myrtle Beach during later in the day on Saturday.

Don't see much of a west turn on that sat yet. Still seem pretty much 315. What you think?

The Maine Patriots Network - Afternoon update on Hurricane Florence.
We are partnering with Patriot related groups around the country to try and get aid in to the area as quickly as possible. While Florence has weakened significantly over the last 24 hours Florence is still not something to take lightly. All preparations should be rushed to completion if they aren't already completed as conditions are going down hill rapidly this afternoon. Of course listen to your National Weather Service office and Emergency Management officials on what to do in your area and hope you all stay safe!
