Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Hurricane - Discussion
I'm not going to say the winds have gone up, but I believe recon will find at least the pressure has lowered some.

That is impressive. Look at how cold those cloud tops that now have wrapped the eyewall. This is about as well developed an eyewall can look right now.

NEVER, EVER SAY NEVER in the tropics and weather in general, and most importantly, with life itself!!

I apologize to everyone I doubted.
Even an idiot like me can see that it looks better.

It's out of time. Will still be a bad storm but far from the cat 4 monster we expected a couple days ago.
This is definitely a better scenario than I imagined playing out 24-48 hours ago.

She's been moving in very deliberate wobbles tonight- sometimes west, sometimes northwest.
I'm guessing that she makes landfall at Wilmington or slightly north but Flo has her own mind.
We'll have to watch and wait.

I hope I am wrong but as I stated a couple of pages back, but it is my fear that Recon will find an intensifying hurricane.

Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Hurricane - Discussion
The reason that winds aren't working to the ground is likely due to the effects of land friction, but that same interaction makes strong gusts more probable.

Regardless, this is a hurricane that appears to be stationary on our coast. I think that it's pretty crazy if you ask me.

Outer eyewall looks like it's taking over now, really tightening up on radar.

That's the best thing about it stalling out on the coast. As it keeps upwelling water it'll continue to weaken. It's still a huge problem that it's barely moving but at least it won't get any stronger.

This is why I believe it could be deepening some.

I use this radar with the active tropical track overlay turned on in the Layers tab (lower right). It has been tracking her eye movement almost hourly and really shows how her track has been moving. http://www.witn.com/templates/2015_Fullscreen_Radar
