Re: ATL: GORDON - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Could it be moving slower because it is intensifying? It is trying to wrap on its NW and W side.

Re: ATL: GORDON - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Is the break up of the core the reason the storms seem to have spread out over the entire state of Fl now rather than just to the south?

I was wondering that as well. For a storm which has supposedly been moving 16 mph for hours now...sure hasn't seemed to move very much imo.
Seems like there was an issue with one of the storms last year where models kept saying it was going to move NW over the gulf but it instead went up the peninsula of Florida and stayed inland almost like Florida pulled it in.

If you extrapolate a line from where the center was this morning according to NHC over Key Largo to where it is now just west of Marco Island you end up near Pensacola. It better start gaining more longitude or warnings are going to be need further eastward across the FL Panhandle! IMO

Daytime heating has caused the convective activity upstate. Most areas have already had a round or 3 so we're rain cooled and more stable now

It looks like that Gordon system and the system still spinning over TX/LA are gearing up to battle each other

Lots of dry air around it. Not much available to feed in?

I see maybe a ridge pushing westward, and I see the anti-cyclone retrograding westward in the central Gulf giving Gordon a little wiggle room to move westward? Is that a possibility? Not -removed-, just wondering at the dynamics of it all!

If you notice the ULL to the north of Gordon in the SE is moving west at the same time Gordon is developing. Does this affect Gordon? Or does Gordon remain somewhat a disorganized TS?

well you have the benefit (or lack thereof if you were hoping for BBQ weather) of being downwind of very warm water... so it's more than a one and done proposition for you. On my side of the state the wind is off land which is already rain cooled and won't be able to reload today so we're done with the heavy stuff for now. Tropical timing this year was solidly less than ideal. Memorial day weekend was wipeout for us thanks to Alberto and Labor day weekend hosed us yet again.

The models are forecasting less than 48 hours from landfall so just watch the model consensus now.

Well we are already under a tropical storm warning here in Pensacola, hurricane watch starts just to our West though...fla/ala line westward. I'm guessing by 5 or 6 pm tonight...maybe the track will be more evident, but who knows.

Gordon finally seems to be gaining some space from Florida. The result has been an increase in banding near the center.

watch this radar loop... its a little north of the NHC forecast track att but not all that much... a few WNW bobbles would put it back or track, conversely a few more NW bobbles would raise some issues of course...

Wonder if this promotes or aggravates the break up of the red tide bloom
