I understand barrier islands are considered land, but no one lives on those islands. I think it should only count if people live on the islands. Main landfall hasn't happened yet.

Eh, a lot of people live on Dauphin Island. It's a nice place.

Wasn't talking about Dauphin Island, the eye didn't touch it. I was talking about Petit Bois Island.

Extrap. pressure at 994mb with winds 40-45kts at flight level...pressure is still dropping pretty quickly.

Yes that is why there are so many landfalls, like Harvey had what 4 of them. Going over islands cause it to have multiple land falls, but most people think of landfall as the final landfall when it isn't over water anymore. I know it shouldn't be considered that way but common people don't think of having more than one landfall, they think it makes landfall and then it isn't over water anymore unless it goes over much land (like the peninsula of Florida) and then reenters water and heads to another place.

Wow...it's howling out there now. Can't believe I've still got power. I'm usually the first to lose it.

I'm about 12 miles north of the beach, more like east-central Harrison County. Looks like what's left of Gordon will be passing directly over. Really wish my annemometer wasn't inop. I have two barometers though, freshly calibrated about an hour ago :D

Yeah blin, I always heard of it as final landfall. I know what you’re getting at - something going inland for good. Nws radar has it dead on/south of the al/ms border.

Makes me wonder...with the satellite presentation change, could they decide to upgrade it anyway?

The satellite is crazy. Very cold cloud-tops. It is so close to being a hurricane, if not one already.

Without the data, we might never know. There is still no conclusive data to suggest it is a hurricane - unless radar velocities zoom up another 10 knots or so, or we get a solid ground report. With no additional data, I would put the landfall intensity at 60 kt.

My God, I can't imagine what it must be like to be immediately under these last few satellite frames which for the first time actually appear to nearly translate Gordon's reported winds that up to now, only high flying birds might have remotely experienced.

There's just something intensely unique about being in a storm undergoing significant intensification verses those that have reached a similar intensity yet during an entirely stable state.

Updated track looks to miss Harrison and stay to the east, in Jackson County, according to my local weather. I'll take it. Hope everyone over there stays safe.

With all the convection firing around the center will be interesting to see if it can wrap any moisture back in from the south. Pascagoula looks to stay dry much of the night at the current trend...just goes to show sometimes the center is th best place to be(if you can’t be west)

This thing continues to have a very northerly component. What was originally more of a SE Louisiana/Southeast and West Mississippi problem is quickly becoming an East Mississippi/West Alabama/Florida problem. Amazing how it refuses to take a more westerly track.
