KMOB reports an east wind at 33 mph with gusts well into the 40s in West Mobile. My own personal sensible wx verifies this.

It moved inland a little toward the Alabama side of the MS/AL border, directly between Pascagoula (PQL) and Mobile (MOB) weather stations. Both were hit by the strongest squalls. Pascagoula's peak observed sustained wind was 33 kts, Mobile 34 kts. Looks like Dauphin Island, which went through the strongest squalls in a marine environment had 54 kts (62 mph). This was not a hurricane.

The west side definitely faired well, don’t even think it rained in New Orleans.

NWS just put out a map of the highest observed wind gusts (not 1-min sustained wind) from Gordon. Winds are in mph. Dauphin Island got the prize for the highest gust (and sustained wind, as far as I could find) of 72 mph. The station reported a peak sustained wind of 62 mph. Gordon was clearly a moderate TS at landfall near the MS/AL border.

It looks like Pensacola is going to be the sweet spot for the training thunderstorms coming in off the Gulf. 10 inches and counting at the airport.

To be fair Nate had pitiful wind gusts upon its landfall too but at least it was almost sort of structurally decent. Would have been neat to rack up an official hurricane landfall but it's rained more than I thought here with the passage of the easternmost bands so I'm happy with few complaints

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Digital STP from KMOB so far from Radarscope, with a max of just over 9" just north of Pensacola; lopsided way east of all estimates. Very little precip remains around the actual center; nearly all of it is in a band over AL and the western FL panhandle. Most estimates had flooding rain in a band across central MS and relatively little in FL/AL, but here we are. Tropical meteorology is rarely easy

The center went east of me which was a huge surprise. It didn't go very far east though-only 15 miles or so. Yet, our peak wind gust of 33mph was in a squall that came through 6-10 hours before the center. We were supposed to receive at least 3-6 inches of rain. The only rain we received was in said squall. Gordon proved very difficult to forecast for the NHC.

I watched it on three different radar shots and completely agree with you on this, and I realize that the thing had a really weird and wobbly eye--if that's what they call it, and it's a bit of splitting hairs; but they all seem to show a clear CoC moving across on the E side of the Ms/AL state line in Alabama. All reports now say it made landfall in MS... and that's how the record will show it; but I still say it made landfall in AL.
