Not an meteorologist! Just someone who is interested in weather. Please refer to the NHC and local weather officials to make decisions.

It's crazy to me to see the projected path of a Cat-5 hurricane just off the Florida coastline and no hurricane warnings in effect.

Not correct (yet) by any metric. Only for the northwestern Bahamas.
Pretty sure this is in reference to the record set by Irma in regard to hurricanes outside of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, which it set with 180 mph winds and a 914mb central pressure.
You’re correct. That’s what the weather channel just said.

Hasn’t it been moving at 8 mph for the past 12+ hours?
It has been gradually slowing down, as predicted. The big slowdown is tonight.
I went back and looked at the NHC advisories. It has been moving west at 8 MPH since 11 AM yesterday. Now, at the 11 AM advisory, it has slowed to 7 MPH.

For Pete's sake, from the NHC: ..DORIAN BECOMES THE STRONGEST HURRICANE IN MODERN RECORDS FOR
THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS."

Re: ATL: DORIAN - Hurricane - Discussion
I am no surprised that Dorian is a Category 5 hurricane. The winds are stronger than Katrina at peak before it ravaged the Gulf Coast. It is going to be really bad for Bahamas.

Rain rates still at levels where this can intensify more.
Steady dewpoint as well, meaning no indication of EWRC in foreseeable future.

Serious question, will going over the bahamas and the shallow waters of the local estuaries weaken Dorian?
