Yup - definitely has a WNW component now.

Eyewall onshore; northerly component a result of trochoidal motion via conservation of angular momentum, due to surface friction. With respect to moment of central pressure movement, one should await a several hour geopositional trend before conveying this assertion.

Yea this could be likely, we might see it dip a little S of W as it crosses Abaco Island

Yes actually. I've seen a few mets discuss this in detail. They like to ride along or around land wherever they can.

Yes when steering currents are weak a hurricane, especially a strong one, will often ride along the land or "bounce" off it due to frictional effects.

A typhoon earlier this season did just that. It literally went around a small island.

I anxious on hearing about Jim Edds and Josh Morgerman. They probably went right in the eye. I'm more concerned about Jim since he was on a small flat island and it sounds like the storm surge was huge.

I'm absolutely speechless after witnessing what Dorian has done today, dang!!!

Josh Morgerman and Jim Edds must be having the storm of their lifetimes, I pray for their safety and for the people of the Bahamas!

But not little islands like the abaco islands. Hurricanes don't even notice things like that.

I recall something having to do with frictional forces. You see from time to time with intense Typhoons and the island of Taiwan

I remember Dr Steven Lyons mention something similar to this in a conference back in 07. Wished he was still on TV, he honestly was a John Hope 2.0 with his observations. Hope he’s enjoying his tenure as meteorologist in charge for a NWS in TX.

That video linked a page back shows rapidly moving water...the surge is like a tsunami. the ocean is in motion. Side note...thank you Tolakram and everyone else for your outstanding moderating efforts and quick removal of junk posts. Now more than ever we need civil and on topic posts.

This had more to do with an EWRC, the inner eyewall was performing multiple trochoidal wobbles inside of a secondary eyewall.

Looking for a link to a regional hourly SLP change chart.

Do not bet the ranch based on any non-official forecasts that may appear in the post above no matter how strongly argued they may be, because the fates are capricious and have Murphy's Law on speed-dial.
