I do not think anyone in "modern history" has ever seen the prolonged period of high winds & surge that those little islands have taken - and its not finished yet. So very sad. :(

Yes, even if you're in Freeport and let's say the eyewall never directly crosses there, being battered for 24+ hours with constant Cat 1-3 winds is going to be absolutely horrible, in some ways possibly worse than a quick hit and exit from a Cat-4/5 eyewall.

There is a few places that have been IN that eye for 18 hours plus. I imagine for those lucky ones the weather has been decent all day. Crazy as that sounds and IS.

Here's my .02....

Its a really fluid forecast. AND it depends on the storms strength/depth. The depth has fluctuated plus the eye has grown in size and gone through some sort of EWRC. The wobble of the eye due to size and breakdown of the wall coupled with multiple steering forces and varying strengths and depths lead to this small deviation.

Thanks - it really sucks it's jogged S/SSE for those in Freeport and the rest of Grand Bahama. Hopefully it starts lifting north soon.

High pressure pushing into the Carolina's all the way to the east coast. Visible on WV imagery. With a somewhat wobble to the SE, could Dorian actually end up turning E, then ENE, moving out altogether and not threatening anyone? That would be sweet. Fingers crossed. Or worse, is it trying to make a loop?

From the videos I've seen, the storm surge is what is causing the most issues, 10-20 feet. WOW

Satellite loops work again on Tropical Tidbits. That’s when you know a lot less folks are watching or concerned about this storm any more.

Dorian looks quite a bit weaker than 125 kts, maybe 100 kts now? The longer it remains stalled, the greater the chance that track farther off the Florida coast. Better for Florida that it isn't moving yet. Not good for the Bahamas, though. Josh and Jim Edds are going to have quite a story to tell next spring at the NTWC in S. Padre.

Someone posted on here this morning and said Jim called home and that Josh was shaken up but ok. That’s the only thing I’ve heard about Josh, heard a few about Jim. I’ll go back and see if I can find the post.

Forget who (SEASON_CANCELED?) but someone said they had heard Josh was OK. I don't believe any evidence was given in support of this, but there was no reason to believer the poster was otherwise wrong.

I know it feels good to help, but if you can (and I need to get moving on this too) please just give money.

Also we still have 3 months left in hurricane season...it is certainly possible there could be another threatening storm.

And if you couldn’t afford to buy your supplies again then my all means keep them. But if you are fortunate enough to be able to help out then please please do

In the top image, the cirrus clouds seem to be moving a little south of due west.

Another way to look at it is that people that are in the eye had fairly calm conditions for several hours before having to go through the second half of the eyewall for several hours.

I was just thinking about that. The calm of the eye is usually such a fleeting experience for a few unlucky souls that experience direct landfall before the eye collapses. There some people who will have hours to watch a Cat5 spin around them. Outside of Hurricane Hunters I wonder how many people have ever experienced that.

I'm guessing they're also hearing the roaring winds in the distance all around them. Scary stuff.

I believe Dorian is doing a cyclonic loop and should commence an NW track later this evening, let us hope that is what it is. If not we may wake up tomorrow and it may still be there.

I hope this is just a wobble but Dorian appears to be starting to drift southward.
