If TD #3 somehow gets upgraded to Chantal it’ll be our third storm in a row that looks pitiful.

The first five storms of 2017 were quite pitiful as well, and look where that got us.

Winds in the NE quadrant (from recon) are blowing in the wrong direction - away from any weak center.

Re: ATL: THREE - Tropical Depression - Discussion
One thing right that the models have had with TD 3 is its forward speed during the night into today and becoming elongated because of the incoming trough/front. The LLC will have a tough time catching up with the convection speeding off to the NE. This is like a late May or October looking system/sypnotic set up.

Well, seems like our typical July climo has yielded the usual 1-2 weak storms that you get every other year or so. I think Chantal won't happen until August, which is very normal.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, there's an un-named tropical storm about 1000 miles NE of Mauritius in the South Indian Ocean...

Re: ATL: THREE - Tropical Depression - Discussion
If it gets named fine, if it doesn’t get named fine. It’s still a rainfall threat. Even a TD or tropical wave can have significant impacts. TD 11 in 1999 is a fine example.

I don't think this will get upgraded, but who knows. Right after this we'll have the 20% Gulf area to go back and forth over.

All I see this morning is a well-organized tropical depression perhaps on the verge of becoming a named storm.

Rare for a June or July storm to look anything special. Bertha in 2008 and Alex in 2010 are the most recent ones that come to mind.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

it was taken offline, that old system (PHPNuke) was under constant spammer attack, unfortunately, causing errors on the boards. We don't have the staff to properly maintain or replace it at the moment.

Re: ATL: THREE - Tropical Depression - Discussion
PV from the front has taken a big hit the last 6+ hrs.
Shear dropping rapidly along the coast to NC.
Tracking into a 3500 CAPE ridge east of Savannah.
May not take such a big hit as forecasted.
