JMA - 950 hpa
JtWC - 930 hpa

Which would be closer to reality.
We'll know it in a few minutes

I bet it's in between, but closer to JTWC. Maybe 935 mb or so.

Up to 945mb/90kt from JMA. We’ll probably know the central pressure in the next hour.

04Z pressure reading will be interesting since it appears most of the island is in the eye now. James also has a barometer on him.

And the lottery result is out...945.1 mb from Miyakojima, winds at 10m/s now so likely inside the eye.

I see 945.1 mb at 04Z at the main Miyakojima station. Highest gust I've found is 61.2 m/s (119 kt) at one of the nearby ones.

Using 944 mb as the minimum pressure and JTWC best track stuff, I get 105 kt and 107 kt using r34 and rOCI KZCs, respectively. That seems reasonable enough.

Shimoji was still in the inner portions of the eyewall at 04Z and reported a 46.5 m/s (~90 kt) sustained 10 minute wind. Converting to 1 minute sustained is about 103 kt. This location is also near but just on the left side of the eye's centerline. Anything from 105-115 kt looks like an acceptable intensity estimate to me.

10-min sustained winds of 92.7KT was recorded in Shimojishima Airport. Using the conversion factors in Harper 2010 gives 1-min sustained winds of 102.9KT. Considering that maximum winds may not have been recorded by the station, 110KT sounds like a reasonable estimate to me.

:uarrow: Ha, I just edited my previous post with that same wind data! I divided by the 0.88 conversion used in Courtney and Knaff '09 though (that's the one I typically use).
