If this comes in just south of Corpus, with a west-southwest track, we could see a decent storm surge in Corpus Christi Bay.

And to think, just a few days ago, most models had this as just a wave headed into the Texas coast. :double:

I really hope they didn’t have a last-minute issue like with Willa ‘18.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Not the best look that's for certain... Hopefully NWP TCG skill can increase before the meat of the season, or we are really going to be in for a wild ride.

They almost never change the winds if the plane's out there and hasn't arrived yet.

Knabb is on the weather channel and addressed this saying they might be going in lower than initially planned.

It's possible the mission got changed to a search and rescue. They did the same during Lorenzo last year. They have been flying at 1,000 to 1,500 ft for the last 20 minutes.

Guess they’re holding steady until recon can sample. Still close to a day left before landfall, and with the rate that it’s organizing, the difference in public reception will be minimal between having it at 50mph or 60mph at this intermediate advisory. Barring any flight problems, whatever data they collect will be reflected in the 11pm

I've seen a suggestion that the plane may be attempting to avoid the most vigorous of hot towers/find a more suitable height to enter the core.
