Convection and cumulus beginning to concentrate and bubble up on the north and west sides. Interestingly, the east side continues to struggle. As some have mentioned, getting rid of the large band over Florida may eventually help the east side fire up later this evening.

Pressure looks to be about 991 based on the first pass, but we'll see what the VDM says.

The lowest pressure I saw in that pass was 990.2mb - wouldn't be surprised to see VDM say 991 though.

Looks like the low-level clouds are beginning to fill in much better as well. We'll see what happens.

Cristobal's core has definitely sharpened compared to this morning, but still a pretty broad area of light winds surrounding the center. Strongest flight level winds right now are still in the convective band to the east, and even over the west coast of Florida. It will be really interesting to see if it can pull more moisture and convection over it's core overnight - the slowly falling pressures will work in it's favour.

They goodness for all of the dry air and lack of convection.... Also very thankful that it's moving so fast and not just barely moving like past storms. Should be a very short lived event.....

Cristobal is more of a wake-up reminder that hurricane season is here and now is the time to prepare. Should be in and out with little fanfare.

Agreed, no needed hype with this storm for sure. I feel bad for the folks in Mexico, they are the ones who got it bad. :( . I'm sure there will still be some spots of localized flooding as it hits the Gulf Coast. Because there's still going to be some off and on heavy rain bands in spite of all of the dry air.

Are you talking hook echoes as in possible tornado? If so, y'all find a good safe place to hang for awhile.

That is a really crazy amount of hooks, looks like a prolific tornado outbreak in that image. Hopefully the storms struggle to produce and everyone stays safe.

Yes, hook echoes are usually a sign of a tornado in a supercell.

Convection increasing near the core. Probably going to see a nice blow up during the final 24 hours! 55 knot landfall Intensity is possible.

Haha. Gotta break that out once a year when mid level air and drying looks suspect. Isaac was I think the worst ever. It had a back side but the lack of rain on the front side saved us from bigger problems. Joe mentioned seeding clouds in his summary today (MH). I say leave it alone unless you know all the consequences.

I’ll give Cristobal credit for tenacity. He may never amount to anything, but nothing can fully stop him. I’m waiting to see what happens tonight because if new storms wrap, it’s that much closer to the coast and more likely to rotate across land. Spotty bands here but maybe .2” so far.

I'm in Splendora just northeast of Houston on 59N. We just had a pwerful little cell blow through coming from the NNE. Would that be part of the outer reaches? Don't usually get rain from the east at all.
