The signal is dead on BOTH planes, the other one is likely heading back for transmission issues.

I'd say that dropsonde is enough for a cat 5 upgrade. Maybe a 10 mph reduction, which would still support 160-165 MPH.

They need to send a NOAA plane out there... they've been non-existent with this storm

NOAA is down to one P3 for now, and that plane had maintenance issues today.
