My hunch is that we may see it strengthen just a tad before its final landfall in Cuba.

And bigger population centers with longer evacuation times. Bad combo.
And this outlook from ortt should come as no suprise to anyone on this board. We knew since Saturday this system was going to intensify to a 2/3 in the gulf, at least. The way this ridge has behaved, i wouldnt be susprised if it comes in 100 miles south of the current track.TheStormExpert wrote:https://twitter.com/derekortt/status/1297891450932396033

When we left for Rita it was a scramble because of the last minute slide up the coast. We met many Houston people evacuating thru east Texas because of how bad traffic was getting out of Houston. Another reason to leave early simce evacuees from other areas may add to the traffic.

It was reported on our Houston board. I’ll go dig one up.

Could be an absolute zoo. I know many people are uncomfortable leaving at night but it is often better than sitting in stopped traffic for the day.
Think tomorrow morning is too late?

I couldn't find an immediate link to the press conference announcement but it's legit. It's all over Twitter.
Here is a link to the Houston board:

No, but it will be packed on the roads. I would try to leave by 430 to get fairly far before congestion clogs up the roadways.

The sooner you get ahead of the crowd the better. The worse that could happen by leaving earlier is that you spend a few bucks for your peace of mind and safety.

That is why I prefer late departure but middle of the night. Allows for track changes and intensity forecasts to be taken into account. It only takes one bungled evac attempt to change your whole perspective on what makes more sense.

I like the middle of the night thing, but we have a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old, so that's pretty difficult on my wife. Granted - getting stuck in hours upon hours of traffic would be equally as bad.
