Yep, looks like you're about to get your heaviest weather soon. I have friends in Englewood just to your south and was going to head over there shortly. Chances are some solid gusts of 50 should come through your area this afternoon

I thought the same for the moment but that was apparently just a dry slot and the LLC is still moving NNE

Yep, still moving NNE.

You can see in the VIS SAT that the LLC is displaced to the west of the midlevel center which means the storm likely peaked early this morning and will probably slowly weaken from this point forward. Still going to take a while to wind down from 984 mb though.

I'm sure that the few million people living from Palm Harbor southward to Port Charlotte who are getting buffeted by 40-50 mph gusts and scattered power outages will be overly comforted by your observation. Storm surge tonight? What storm surge - it's just a naked swirl.

Actually we're south of Englewood, next to Sanibel. You're right, that was an intense squall line, power went out for a bit too. Probably the worst weather I've seen since Irma. Took off a boat lift canopy cover across the basin. It's calmer now, but noticing surge is still coming up.

This has to be challenging Barry for the worst looking hurricane of all time at this point. I'm really surprised they didn't downgrade at the most recent advisory. I bet they downgrade that advisory point to TS post season. Eta was a hurricane for sure for a few hours, but it's almost certainly not now

Yep, that was a pretty solid band that went through but there will be plenty of additional discreet cells moving through there shortly

This isn't even close to Barry, at least Eta actually looks symmetrical. Barry looked like a storm someone took a bite out of. Anyways we don't judge storms on how they look when there's data available. Those 83+ knot winds at 850mb was enough to support a hurricane when taking into account reduction.

In reply to NDG’s post of Sarasota Co having school today- yes that’s true...but they gave Monday off when ETA was in the Keys- seriously! We didn’t send our kids today...mainly because I read this forum, and the quality posts from those I pay close attention to (includes NDG btw- thx!). Cut and paste LOL:

Your children are safe and in good hands! We want to share that we lost power at Phillippi, and the phone lines are not working.

Txt STOP to cancel.

Those winds were in a band...It has dropped a lot since then down to 25 sustained...

Officially it says gusts 35mph on Sanibel but those band gusts were at least 60mph...

Once again FALSE. Can we please stop with these posts. Anyone who was up at 4 am saw that ETA was quite an impressive hurricane. We just got lucky with dry air

ATL: ETA - Hurricane - Discussion

I've been tracking hurricanes for 20 years since we moved down here and this is one of the stronger Tropical Storm wind events I've seen...We're 100 miles away from the center and I guarantee this was a hurricane...It's still gusting now...Strongest since Wilma (that I stayed for)...
