I would imagne Cantore has to have some type of refuge plan in place to get out of there when the worse comes in later tonight. He better have for his sake and his crew!!

There is nowhere to hide out here when chasing except where I am at right now.

If you are chasing and read this please come now to Lakeshore and Broad in Lake Charles. Now. You WILL have exit paths blocked by surge very soon.

Already here at a garage nearby! Hope you fair well chaser dude!

It's low level, they fly high level until they get to the storm, dropping down now.

Another thing to remember about the location of this landfall and surge area, there is going to be a lot of nasty wildlife in those flood waters.

I read what a poster stated a short time ago that many people may have decided to ride out the storm due to COVID-19 and not going to shelters in.place. It would be an enomorous catastrophe if people decided to do this instead of evacuating. This monster storm is just something you don't ride out if you value life!!

I’d be very worried about covid too but I’d rather go and take the precautions for covid in a shelter then take my chances with this. The risk to reward comparison just doesn’t balance out. You just don’t survive storm surge typically.

Looks like we are getting a NE-SW pass right off the bat from recon, will give a good indication of whether or not this has a realistic shot at getting cat-5 in the next few hours.

Should get good info in the next 2-3hrs once both planes are in Laura.

Please be careful posting opinions as facts before confirmation. We have thousands of people following the thread and that can cause confusion.

An eyewall replacement cycle I believe would be a blessing at this point. It would likely reduce intensification temporarily while the secondary eyewall develops. Just does not appear likely to happen. No time or space.

The nhc as usual has done a heck of a job with this storm and with almost no help from the models in the beginning.

It looks a lot like Michael there, in the way that the deepest convection is situated. I would not be surprised to watch it strengthen in the same manner in response to shear.

Michael was juxtaposed in a more favorable spot and was moving in the same direction as the shear vector.

Steady NNW movement. I am just numb and completely awestruck looking at this cyclone on satellite. Just an incredible , yet deadly cyclone closing in on the SW LA coast.

It highlights how dreadful people are at risk assessment.

No kidding. Odds of surviving Covid are like 95% plus. Laura? Let's just say a lot less.

Didn't think I'd be seeing horrible covid takes but I'm not surprised I guess. A pandemic causing virus that's killed 170,000 people without the fall and winter months and it not having itself firmly established until later is waaay different than a powerful hurricane barreling towards the coast. How many people do you think die from hurricanes like Laura in the US? Michael thankfully hit a less populated area and killed 74 people but you think 170,000 people dying in 6 months just in the US is a better chance of survival than a powerful hurricane that most people can actually evacuate from? These types of takes shouldn't even be said during a storm like this imo but of course someone ends up saying it :\
