Just 2 hours ago the nhc has her over water for 12 more hours. I hope your prediction is closer

Another 12 hours? So, when it’s suppose makes landfall? Yizzzuuus

Based on the 8pm update we're 8 hours out. So 3am local time

Well, I've seen cars on roofs. You suggesting that we might actually see our first post-hurricane with an alligator on someone's roof??

That was common in past hurricanes down there, including Audrey and Camille. Alligators and water moccasins.

On roofs?? That's just plain over the top lol. When a person can't even crawl on they're own roof for a Coast Guard airlift rescue, because Fido is busy fending off water moccasins and you're having to be Indiana Jones evading two really pissed off 12' gators. #havingacrappyday

I can only imagine what we're seeing now is akin to what we would've seen during the 1856 Last Island, 1886 Indianola, or 1932 Freeport Hurricanes if we had the technology then. Stunning.

wonder if that camera will be under water when Laura makes landfall

It will be under probably about 15 feet of water.

Cameron, LA has a long history with hurricanes. Audrey back in 1957, which hit near Cameron as a Cat 3, killed hundreds of people in town. It used to have a population of 2,000 twenty years ago before being hit by Rita and Ike in quick succession and caused most residents to relocate. Population was down to 406 by 2010. And now...right in the firing path of a High-end category 4.

I guess this may not be a surprise for old timers but gut wrenching nonetheless given its very scarred past.

I saw that too. This is likely due to truncation. The northern eyewall is so strong that the radar is having trouble seeing the southern one.

Edit: woops, didn’t mean to put that spam icon in there. Must have pressed the button and didn’t realize it.

Most likely attenuation of the radar signal since some extreme convection is firing in the northern eyewall at the moment. Time will tell.
