Anything is possible I guess, I will say Sally was weakening the day before she made landfall granted she was still a cat 1 and she went on to high cat 2 almost 3. Who knows at this point...

This storm is already wetter than Don. I remember my uncle was down in Rockport when it was heading towards the coast and he said it never even rained. I already had about 0.5 inches of rain today. I don't remember ever getting rain from Don.

There was also a severe drought all over Texas that time in 2011.

Yeah I still wouldn't completely rule out one last attempt at strengthening tomorrow, but if it keeps this current trend up by morning I doubt its able to get going any time past that. As they say though never say never, especially in peak season in the gulf but dry air is certainly feasting on it right now.

There’s still alot of wind and convection that albeit displaced will keep this storm alive and able to re-intensify when there’s even the slightest weakness in shear and dry air.

At least there’s been some rain tho for those who need it.
We even got some rain bands here in San Antonio!

Looks about like it did last night at this time. Could see another blow up tomorrow morning. Pulsing is the word I keep seeing.

Shower activity near the center looks a little bit healthier now. It’s no longer spreading away in all directions, and some yellows are showing up on radar. I think another burst is possible, we’ll see. 0z 3k NAM takes it down to 991mb a few hours before landfall, take that for whatever little it’s worth

Ugh. This is how you get the “weather is the only job that pays you to be wrong!” comments from the general public

We had rain for most of the afternoon here in Houston. It is raining lightly with a nice breeze right now where I am in West Houston. There is major coastal flooding goin on all along the coast from High Island to at least Freeport. I expect there will be plenty of damage and clean up to deal with once this is over. Major scouring of dunes and protective vegetation going on also.

Ah yes, the same model that said Hurricane Barry would have the lowest pressure ever recorded...

In all seriousness, most of the models are showing persistence or a slight weakening between now and landfall. But if we do get another bursting phase, I hope we have recon there to see it. I'm almost certain Beta was more than 50 kt when it had that eyewall feature this afternoon.

Well latest gfs puts the center directly over my house Victoria tx. I will see whatever is left of the beta when it’s all said and done! I’d say maybe 60 mph gusts and some betaficial rain!!

Literally that’s what the notification said when it popped up on my phone.

The dry air has really taken its toll this evening. We’ll see what we wake-up to in the morning. Honestly, nothing would surprise me at this point. What a strange season, to say the least.

Never underestimate Texas dry air. It does look objectively worse than last night's raggedness, but it did come back roaring today briefly.

That’s like...the opposite of a filling dinner for a tropical storm if you ask me. More like it was forced to go to bed without food

I was thinking something along those same lines but wasn't sure how to describe it further. :P
