Yeah, I would definitely be safe to assume we are in for a wild ride this 2020 North Atlantic Hurricane Season!

At this point.. even statistically.. probably not a bad idea to extend the start of the hurricane season to the same time as the pacific.. if not just make it May 1st lol

I’ve been thinking this myself. May storms seem to be becoming a yearly thing, so just extend it to May 15 like EPAC.

Yeah, I agree. I think the time has come to start the North Atlantic Season on May 15, just like the Eastern Pacific basin.

She’s only about 5-10 mile from landfall near Awendaw according to radar. Probably will hit land within an hour unless she bounces and dances along the shoreline.

Very classic deepening Tropical Storm Radar signature. another 12 hours or less and we might have been talking about a borderline hurricane.

That darn bouy finally updated. of course, it is after the center passed. southern "eyewall" pressure was 1005 mb.. so actual pressure was probably 1000 to 1003 mb.

As NDG pointed out, Bertha traversed directly over the Gulf Stream overnight and she pulled together very quickly. The magic of the Gulf Stream!!
You can actually see the development of a CDO on visible satellite imagery on her approach to landfall currently. Yes Bertha is rapidly intensifying right up to landfall.
Man if this had only 2-3 ,hours more over water, we may have had a hurricane here.

Didn’t something similar happen with Beryl eight years ago?

Buoy is reporting pressure much lower than what the NHC estimated.

Atmospheric Pressure (PRES): 29.70 in

I don't know for sure, but with just 2 hours this has to be the one of the storms with the least amount of time between being named and making landfall, at least as far as I can remember.

Keep in mind that even though it was named very close to when it made landfall it was likely a tropical storm for several hours before that. We'll have to see in the off-season.

Great point. Is possible on post season analysis they find formation was 6 to 12 hours back. We will see.

Guess this little lady (and probably the season itself) is full of surprises. She's kind of like, I dunno...a little sprite, or a shooting star. Something like that.

Guess instead of ordinary rain later today, I'll be getting rain from a (former?) TS!

Quite surprising to wake up and see 45 kt tiny Bertha making landfall in SC.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

 You can see the beginnings of an eyewall forming in that loop! Another 12 hours and this would likely have been a hurricane!
