I stand corrected, we have landfall. I believe they're referring to the actual center, not the mesovortex around the delta.

NHC indicates landfall, but the coords given in the update are maybe 20-25 miles west of where the swirl is crossing Plaquemines Parish. This would still indicate that the swirl isn’t quite yet the true CoC.

The center has been the center.. watch long sat loops when it was farther offshore from recon fixes.. as it approached land some eddys developed over land and convection built to the east that caused the center to move in this half circle motion.. But it is the same center from the recon fixes.

Yeah, strong band forming heading in for the entire coastline looks like.

Is still nothing but a large CoC that just made landfall near Barataria Bay, lower Lafourche and Jefferson Parishes, look at all the calm winds west of the eddy rotating to the east of it that just passed the mouth of the MS river.
Now the question will be if that eddy becomes the dominant CoC when it gets back over land over SE LA as it rotates around the larger circulation.

I mean, it's had the classic TS features, just been running around topless. Not sure if you're referring to the mesovortex running around the Mississippi River delta or not, but I'm not entirely sure the exact center has made its landfall, at least based upon what the NHC has been saying.

I feel like I’m sitting under it but winds and flow is still from the East. Darkening up again so we will see in a minute.

If it is the true center, why doesn’t NHC acknowledge it as such?

First indication that it was never the true CoC when winds reported at the mouth of the MS river were still from the SE as it tracked over them to only switch to the SW after long gone.

Based on its current appearance, if Cristobal spent another 6-12 hours over water, I think it would’ve had a good shot at 55-65 kt.

I hear you. I thought about coming back this weekend but I figured I’d stay here. I’m outside watching the eddy pass overhead. We should be on the southern side of the circulation but we still had east winds. Circulation within a circulation. I’m tired but I want to stay up for the other side.

As darkness approaches, satellite is showing several different low and mid level “swirls” or eddies. The main one we have been watching is heading toward Bay St Louis, a second is just west around NOLA, and a third is at the western end of Pontchartrain.

Current NHC position has the center about halfway between New Orleans and Buras, along the Mississippi River.

Southern AL/MS and the Florida panhandle have just been slammed today by heavy rain and strong gusts. The fact that surge exceeded predictions is not great either.

On another note, it''s been very interesting to watch the various low-level vortices dance around all another in the center. You rarely get the chance to observe such phenomena so clearly.

Mobile AL reported a sustained east wind of 38 mph at the top of the hour with gusts to 49 mph. That's as close to sustained TS winds as we've seen so far on land.

In the 7 PM CDT intermediate advisory, the NHC stated that Dauphin Island reported a sustained wind of 45 mph and a gust of 49 mph. Obviously an island is not the same as a continental land mass, but it's something.
