Guess Josephine will get gypped yet again?
I still don't quite understand why this is moving north. Seems like an odd direction for a storm in that location. What is up with the steering currents out there?

Haven't there been a couple recently out there that have been doing that? I wanna say Vince in 2005 and maybe one a year or two ago that became extra tropical near Portugal, can't remember the name though.

It's too far from the Bermuda High so there is probably a trough or an African ridge sending it north.

Not an meteorologist! Just someone who is interested in weather. Please refer to the NHC and local weather officials to make decisions.

Re: ATL: TEN - Tropical Depression - Discussion
Part of me kind of hopes it stays a TD so we don't burn more names on ultra short lived oceanic TS and wind up with category five Hurricane Theta in October, and a 2013-level TS to hurricane ratio, but it certainly would be amusing and the atmosphere really doesn't care what I think

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

This thing tried so hard to earn itself a name despite being ignored for days, so I wouldn't be mad if it got named. Quite a persistent storm! It actually looks really neat on visible.

It definitely gets an A+ for effort and significantly overachieving, just glad it's in the record books as a tropical cyclone now since few aside from hardcore nerds (yes hi that's me) remember even the most impressive invests

I think we hardly ever see Cabo Verde Time (CVT) used in advisories.

Is there a satellite view that covers TD Ten? I can’t find one on the NOAA sites.
I hope this does become Josephine for what it’s worth. Weak or not it’s an intriguing storm heading into the open ocean.

I think starting this year they're using local time zones for the listed time on the advisories.

I wonder if they'll update it at the advisory anyway? Seeing a 35KT barb on a system that small likely means that it might even be closer to 40KT.

Re: ATL: TEN - Tropical Depression - Discussion
Thanks abajan!
This looks like a tropical storm for sure right now. Deep convection has been maintaining for a while now and ASCAT has now found 34 kt in the circulation. Certainly should be upgraded in my opinion.
Also, I would move genesis back a couple of days. I think it was probably briefly a tropical storm already.

If we do get Josephine tonight that would truly be incredible to be at J by August 1.

The NHC has decided to not pull the trigger, but it was almost certainly a TS at some point.
