the visible satellite and radar gives the impression it's moving west again staying offshore?

Movement is hard to discern on radar because the inner core is so dry. I agree though; it’s looked stalled out to me for a little while now, just offshore Matagorda Bay.

Yea it sure does. Hasn’t seemed to move at all since noon. Possibly moved a tad bit away from the coast but can’t tell.

No squalls around the center any longer. It's been next to a couple of buoys all day and max winds I've seen were about 25 kts. I know recon found SFMR winds of 40-45 kts, but FL winds are only 40 kts and there are no squalls to carry that wind to the surface. I don't believe those SFMR winds reflect true surface winds. This may be a TS landfall in name only. Doubt it has any TS winds now. Measured a nice, steady 1.82" today in SW Houston. My yard is saying "ahhhh".

After this, we Beta have something more interesting and worthy to track this season, and it Beta not be a monstrous land threat like Laura.

And I promise I’m done with these terrible Beta puns.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Wouldn’t those be pressure gradient winds due to proximity of a surface low? And thus, still at the surface?

Fewer than 1% without power any county in Texas, which is the no TS wind criteria I use.

If there are any TS winds, they’re offshore. Doubt there will be onshore...

We are just east of Richmond on Hwy 59(I69). We've had steady rain, mist, downpours, and everything but dry since about 2pm yesterday. We are at 6.5" total rainfall at 7:30 pm tonight. The winds aren't remarkable but fairly steady.

Beta has more convection on land then it does near the center over water. Is that because the northwest side is hitting that dry line from the front?

Seeing pretty significant amounts of rain still to fall in SE TX over the next couple of days on the short range models. So far 3.66" here.

Figure I won't get much until tomorrow in SE Montgomery county and hoping it won't be as much as Houston is getting now.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Beta has now made landfall, according to the NHC:

...CENTER OF BETA CROSSES THE TEXAS COAST NEAR THE SOUTHERN END OF
MATAGORDA PENINSULA...

Surface observations received after the issuance of the previous
advisory indicate that Beta's center crossed the Texas coast near
the southern end of Matagorda Peninsula around 10 PM CDT.

That is the 10th tropical cyclone landfall on the continental US so far this year, and the 9th at TS intensity or greater. (In case you've forgotten, the others were Bertha, Cristobal, Fay, Hanna, Isaias, Marco, Laura, and Sally.)

Wait, what was the Tropical Depression that made landfall?
