Is this still going to continue east? I'm in southeast Montgomery county and only had an inch in 2 days but looking at the flooding in Houston has me concerned.

Does anyone have a NEXRAD screen capture or loop at the time of this reading? Nearby surface observations don’t seem to support such high winds.

Beta has now made landfall, according to the NHC:

...CENTER OF BETA CROSSES THE TEXAS COAST NEAR THE SOUTHERN END OF
MATAGORDA PENINSULA...

Surface observations received after the issuance of the previous
advisory indicate that Beta's center crossed the Texas coast near
the southern end of Matagorda Peninsula around 10 PM CDT.

That is the 10th tropical cyclone landfall on the continental US so far this year, and the 9th at TS intensity or greater. (In case you've forgotten, the others were Bertha, Cristobal, Fay, Hanna, Isaias, Marco, Laura, and Sally.)

What's the record for landfalls just in the Gulf?

So far, we've had:
TS Cristobal - Louisiana
Hurricane Hanna - Texas
Hurricane Laura (M) - Louisiana
Hurricane Marco - MS river
Hurricane Sally - Alabama
TS Beta - Texas

Any chance that the big mess of storms south of New Orleans gets its own CoC??? I'm not impressed with the mess at the Center of Beta. I know there is significant flooding South of Houston, but still not that impressive.

Please discontinue downplaying anything and everything that doesn't hit in your area. That doesn't make unimpressive or less dangerous.

This seems to be a fairly consistent issue with your posts.

I wasn't downplaying the situation, just stating that this is not a very impressive system satellite and radar wise.

It isn't very impressive and only ever has been briefly. But that shouldn't minimize hazards that it did and will bring. It's been grey/misty/drizzly here since about Friday or so. The only thing that saved SELA was that the heavier bands stayed offshore the last several days. And we're talking generally less than 100 miles. So for those who got caught under training bands, the rainfall is real. So was wind-driven coastal flooding. It was always a cool storm to follow though.

I also don’t want to minimize some of the historical nature. First Greek storm to landfall on the US. 6th Gulf landfall. Multiple-th storm west of 80/85/90W.

Currently it looks like it's beginning to decouple. The low-level center will probably stay farther behind the energy as it shears off slowly to the N and NE. I don't know if there comes a point where it no longer produces any rainfall, but we certainly aren't there yet. Center is pretty close to the coast and firing off a little. But we can see that the cloudtops aren't very cold on the IR.

Well to me watching the LLC this afternoon it’s looks to be well intact and heading ESE towards the GOM, keeps this heading and will be back will be back in GOM tonight... it’s just ENE of Port Alto on radar, here is the center in red from the latest sat image.. pretty cool to watch a naked swirl regardless of where they’re located.
