I know just about enough to sound like I know what I'm talking about sometimes. But for your safety please follow the nhc for truly professional forecasting. :D

It looks like it’s only a few hours (six at the most) from entering the Gulf. Gamma seems to be moving faster than anticipated, and it’s remained much better organized than expected despite going over land, so it could try to intensify again once it’s back over open water before shear and dry air try to kill it.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Yet another case of “If this has more time over water”. This has been a reoccurring theme this season where storms rapidly spin up just before landfall starting with Hanna.

Gamma could very well be upgraded to minimal Cat.1 status in post analysis, anyone else agree?

Yeah I bet it will get the upgrade. Honestly I'm a little surprised they didn't pull the trigger today

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

It had an eye-like feature so I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get upgraded.

I believe it is now offshore. It sure doesn't look much worse for being over land all day

The NHC is so uncertain with its intensity forecast, it’s kept Gamma at 50 kt throughout the entire 120 hour forecast period. This is the first time I’ve seen a constant intensity forecast.

Cold pool has warmed as expected.
However, the cold pool and warm core are vertically stacked and a large thermal gradient is present at mid level.

Strong, high-CAPE infeed from the Loop Current.
CAPE increasing to the west of the CoC indicating no low-level dry-air entrainment yet.
