Plenty of 120mph+ bins on the velocity scan in southern Alabama right now.

That was fun. I heard about 20 transformers explode and power is out around us but not on my block. I rode the eyewall on my back steps which face west and then the backside on my front porch when the SW/W winds kicked in. Backside had some higher gusts, but the frontside had the rain and sustained winds. Lots of small limbs are down, and we have about 9 roof shingles in the yard. All of my siblings (Lockport - 50 miles SW, Mandeville 35 miles N, west Metairie - 10 miles W and Mid-City - 8 blocks - are all without power. My daughter in Metairie lost it too. I just chilled back and marveled at everything, and I’m happy about that. It never got terrible, but it was for sure tropical storm level. As others have said, it was orange in the eye. I saw a flock of egrets and then some ducks and other birds flying around in it. Zeta was a trip because it was serious but not so extreme that it made anyone panic here. Turned out to easily be the best storm of the 6 or 7 we got rain from and certainly the most exciting (for me) of the 6 we were in the cone for. Final thought is that not all baby boomers are climate denying idiots. Y’all can’t forget that we invented science. :)

We got hammered here in bay st louis MS. I almost lost my roof! Major damage around here. Most of the damage occurred after the wind shift. Definitely felt like a cat three hurricane!

Wow glad you're ok. Sounds like it was pretty rough

I just noticed that, eye is becoming better defined and symmetrical on infrared too. Unbelievable. Zeta is trying to pull an Erin!

It got wild here for bit earlier in New Orleans. Transformer impaled a car across the street and another power pole snapped next door. We’re prone to flooding but stayed dry. Yard is a MESS. Counting our blessings

Tremendous storm surge near Waveland. Atleast 8-9 ft based on tideguage at Yacht Club.

That was a novel experience, even over here. Something different about that one, maybe because it was so quick moving. Montgomery, Atlanta, you're on the clock.

Agreed jag. Because of the short duration it was almost hurricane lite. Often we have 10-12 hours of bands and anticipation, but this was in and out in a few hours. Really cool from an enthusiast’s perspective but almost like a try it before you buy it storm.

It had the feel of a fast-moving, high end derecho.

Been watching gauge at Pascagoula. Reached 7.2... Nate in 17 was 7.6 Feet there, so this should be similar. I thought it had stopped about 6 there earlier but It slowed and then shot up another foot. Nate surge did some damage. Would have been much worse pre Katrina but now 7 is sort of a, meh, get away from the beach surge there.

I thought about that for a while standing there watching the sideways rain. I had watched a video on YouTube a few months ago from Iowa I think that was 30 minutes of Derecho (Slack got hit by that), and I couldn’t turn it off.

We had a strange derecho in Denver in the spring. It was wild. 15 minutes of intense wind and hurricane gusts and then poof, gone...trees down all over the neighborhood. wind Events are not really rare here, but associated with a derecho storm is. I think it mixed it down in a way that was worse than our typical chinook events because tree damage was worst I have seen here.
