Would be the latest Category 5 by far and only CAT 5 that started as a Tropical Depression in November.

Although Lenny of 1999 came super close.

Not out of the realm of possibilities I guess...at first I thought all the 2020 hocus pocus was just a bunch of hoo haa... but now a part of me is starting to believe it..98L sure looks like it means business...hope I'm wrong

What’s amazing is the persistent high pressure that keeps these systems bottled up in the Caribbean or GOM.

I'm about to do a saved loop on 98L, but Gifyu is taking a while to do it

Pinhole storms are a crazy feature of 2020. (Delta & Eta had pinholes)

Marco, Nana, Gamma, Delta, and Eta were all Caribbean systems with very tiny cores, although only the final two really got to take advantage of them.

It’s like 2020 is persistent to get a Category 5, no matter how long it takes. Hopefully Iota will be the one so it FINALLY calms down for once.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

162 days into hurricane season, with 29 named storms.
That's a named storm every 5.5 days.
In 3 days we will be due for another named storm (Iota).

So what comes after Omega?

The biggest thing that everyone here seems to talk about is a possible CAT 5 in November. But the only other November CAT 5 was in 1932 "Cuba" Hurricane

I believe the storms that had the biggest Category 5 potential in order are Eta (which I believe was a CAT 5 for an hour or 2), Laura, Delta, and Teddy but none panned out. Iota is (fingers crossed) the basin's last chance. Don't tempt Kappa to be a freak late-November CAT 5...

Eta probably would have been a cat 5 if we had better planes...

I called Marco 'Micro Marco' after looking at TS Marco in the 2008 ATL season, similar size in 1996 season & this year.

Honestly Eta was probably a Cat 5 for a couple hours. It's too bad recon got called back...

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.
