Can anyone estimate how much longer before Barbados gets an ease from being hammered?

I'm on the south of the island and some massive mango trees are dancing like it's festival time. No lightning or thunder at the moment, but the wind sounds like a freight train! I can't imagine how our neighbours in St Vincent will manage.

Elsa is looking like a beast with all those hot towers. Absolutely RI right now. Looking explosive. Absolutely gorgeous. Hope Barbados is doing ok. I suspect this will reach MH status now with that presentation.

I'm still wondering how Elsa became a hurricane even though it was going so fast. I thought storms had to slow down to a certain speed (less than 20 knots, probably) before intensifying significantly

I am in Seattle now, it is 5:22 am, and I had to wake up early just to see how Elsa was doing and…..dang.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

The strongest storm by wind speed Allen was moving faster than 20knots. Clearly that is not the case. However it does help to slow down IF the storm does not have a stacked center. Elsa has a stacked center.

If it can stack up vertically at the same speed the LLC is going at, it shouldn’t be an issue how fast it’s going. A good example is usually ex-Tropicals that go through the loop current and are being pushed by troughs out to sea.

Thanks - I think the last time we had a nearly direct hit was Tomas... Before that was Janet in 1955 I believe. I think I speak for the entire country when I say we want this to be over! I cannot begin to imagine what a MH would be like.

Yeah, I saw many people saying that its LLC and MLC needed to be stacked to intensify significantly, and they weren't stacked for a while. I (and others, I believe) attributed this to the fact that it was moving so quickly.

Is Elsa the earliest MDR hurricane on record?

I don't believe so. It might be the 2nd earliest, behind the 1933 Trinidad hurricane, but I'm not completely sure.

No, 1933 Trinidad Hurricane has that beat I believe. Correct me if I am wrong because this is off the top of my head.

No doubt Elsa is a hurricane this morning, look at its satellite presentation with the classic ring of fire around its core!

I think the NHC’s position is a little too west.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Looks like it is going to miss those two islands as it enters the Caribbean which means no disrupted core. :double: :double:
