And just a heads up from on the ground here Between Baton Rouge and New Orleans... Even if people wanted to leave from my area, they cant. No gas to be found anywhere. No plywood to board windows. And shelves of the Walmart in Walker, La are stripped clean

That’s terrible. So you weren’t able to leave? I’m just gobsmacked!

Not me personally. I saw this coming days ago. We filled up yesterday. But people have been desperately trying to find stations that have gas through face book all afternoon

Anxious tonight in Lafayette, all my preps are done but this is going to come down to the wire whether or not we experience significant west core effects. I know Laura had very strong winds on the western side and it will be interesting to see the damage locally after 2 hurricanes with strong south winds last year and now from the opposite direction. The cities and towns along highway 90 from New Iberia to Houma are going to be absolutely devastated but hopefully NOLA gets spared major impacts. Sad situation all around and I'm really tired of being in crisis mode.

Preliminary recon data suggest Ida has only weakened from 70kts to 65kts due to the passage over Cuba

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

I think this will be a pretty good analog as far as how fast a storm can recover after interacting with NW Cuba

Looking at the radar, it seems the eyewall is trying to rebuild on the northeast quadrant.

Is it just me or the center look east of the forecast after coming off interaction with Cuba?

I fill up with 50 gallons every Memorial Day and treat it with Stabil. It stays fresh easily through the rest of the year. That's enough worst case to fill both of my vehicles from empty and leave a good amount for the genny. Early season preparation is so key should the worst case happen.

Also, in the somewhat probable scenario that Ida does become a Cat 5, it would be the first Atlantic Cat 5 in August since 2007

Charley was a very small storm. Small storms can ramp up very quickly.

Ida still has the night over the Gulf, and all of tomorrow, tomorrow night, and the first half of Sunday over the Gulf. Oh yeah, and it will be going over the Loop Current. This is just awful, a perfect recipe for a Cat 4 or possibly 5 landfall barring any Delta-like collapse or EWRC.

I think it's because of the eyewall rebuilding, and it looks like the NE quadrant is the first to get established. Might have some effects on short term track but nonetheless the next few hours will be crucial to see how fast Ida develops her eye. My bet is that the first sign of RI will be witnessed in the early hours of Saturday...way before Ida traverses the area with the highest ocean heat content in the GOM.

We now have our answer with regard to what Ida looks like as it enters the Gulf. It's a well intact system capable of strengthening quickly. At this point there really isn't anything left to stop this from intensifying going forward before it makes landfall. Hope everyone in Louisiana is prepared.

The new NHC Track has shifted slightly East.
