Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
**Sorry if this post is too much off topic but hopefully relevant enough.**
Are there any projects/plans or testing/prototypes of a unnamed aerial drone(ie like ones used for military) for hurricane reconnaissance?
Or does the nature of hurricanes/tropical systems that require onboard human controlled flights?
Man, the US needs newer planes and/or more updated/better maintenance for the fleet of Hurricane Hunters....better funding....
rant over
Back to Ida, hopefully this will be less than forecast but still time for for Ida to get bigger/stronger/more dangerous at landfall...Prayers....

Its a valid concern and totally on topic. The airforce is cannibalizing spare parts for most of its aircraft except the F-35 and F-22 because they do not know how to make the parts anymore.
Ominous for our future. You can google the topic, its very alarming. The skill to make these things has retired or the plants went oversea's. Hurricane hunters are not new aircraft.

Disclaimer: this may or may not be true, but if the latter...how did this end up happening?
Fouchon is insane. It’s restricted now but used to have a cool surfer scene back in the day. It’s the most waterfront industrial area you can imagine hopped up on steroid shots. It’s ultra bright on the darkest, newest moon
Extremely bright from the viewpoint of the ISS. All of the cities are “warm” light and the pinprick of bright “daytime” light on the bottom right is Fourchon.

Need a warmer eye but this is getting to T6.0 territory.
WMG eye in the next 6 hours would actually be close to 6.5.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

It's a good question. Tbh, I thought it was announced a couple years ago that NHC was going to have the Air Force run some farther east MDR drone recon flights. Sounded really cool and then..... never heard anything more about it?!

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
Is she starting to bend more wnw??? It's going to come down to probably 30 miles either way to determine if New Orleans gets whacked with major hurricane winds and surge or strong TS/Cat 1 conditions.
