Sorry for such negative stuff, but there will be nothing left of most of the structures there and the shape of Louisiana will be redefined again.

Based on the current short-term wobbling and long-term movement, Grand Isle may cease to exist during the next several hours.

This is horrific! My prayers are with everyone down there. I’m thankful that my cousins left and are in Panama City now.

I think what I've learned from the years since 2017 is that in a given near future year, especially if it is a La Nina year, a major August Cat 4 landfalling Gulf of Mexico hurricane on the CONUS can never be ruled out.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

I've never heard of that metric before, but Katrina was a larger storm at similar pressure, so it probably did have more total "energy" or whatever. You can see that in the projected surge totals I think as well - Katrina's were significantly higher. That said though...Ida is no joke man it's gonna mess the LA coastline up

Just had a squall come though here in Pass Christian that was pretty intense. Lots of small tree limbs down. Can't believe what Ida has done.....MGC

A lot of people didn't evacuate grande isle, NWS and NHC were trying to convince as many people as possible that to not compare this to previous storms.

TWC keeps showing a mounted camera on Grand Isle where the surge keeps going up. It's easy to measure how much the surge has risen when you keep watching that camera. Looks like already overtaking some of the lower rungs of stairs leading up to homes. Street is underwater.

The eye is becoming more perfectly round and distinct with each satellite frame. This is crazy…

Ida is a meteorological marvel but I fear a humanitarian disaster. Hospitals are full of Covid patients with very little room for the storm’s casualties. Having seen the ravages of what Camille did to the Mississippi coast years after the storm departed it is horrifying to imagine this unfolding disaster. Prayers for all those affected.

146 kt that have been reported by both aircraft and believable SFMR
winds of around 130 kt. The NOAA aircraft very recently reported
that the minimum pressure has fallen to around 933 mb. This special
advisory is issued to raise the 12-hour forecast intensity to 135
kt, but it is possible that Ida could peak slightly above that
before landfall occurs.

Wtf.

In that case, they should go ahead and call it a Category 5. Because it’s about to be one.

Just a reminder that if it got to 155 mph, that would still be a Cat 4. I know that's just 1 mph below Cat 5, but it's just that the news media often gets it wrong.

Grand Isle will be the next Mexico Beach, unfortunately. Like Michael, Ida will be making landfall as a strengthening Category-5 during daylight.

I really hope people got the heck out of there. Parts of that coastline aren't going to exist in a few hours

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

It was forecast by the NHC to get this strong so it was to be expected. They almost always stay conservative with their wind forecasts so the fact they were so confident about this hitting 140mph says a lot. Especially the fact NHC kept saying rapid intensification would happen but you had a lot of people here, and on other boards, trying to say how it wouldn't get that strong lol
