For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Disorganized thunderstorms continue near a non-tropical area of low
pressure located several hundred miles south-southwest of
Newfoundland. Environmental conditions are not forecast to be
conducive for significant development overnight while the low
accelerates northeastward. On Friday, the system is expected to
open up into a trough of low pressure to the south of Newfoundland.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...10 percent.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Shower activity associated with a non-tropical area of low
pressure located several hundred miles south-southwest of
Newfoundland is becoming less organized, and recent satellite wind
data indicate that the circulation is weakening. The low is
expected to degenerate to a trough later today south of
Newfoundland, and its chances of tropical cyclone formation have
diminished.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...near 0 percent.

Not sure what made it worthy of investigation to begin with. Location + time of year perhaps?

It looked quite interesting, and it had slight model support.
