wind field will expand due to EWRC.

Btw, Rai isn't crossing the sierra Madre of Luzon. This system has a lot of steamy Visayan water at its disposal - not looking good for the Visayas

Lots of big branches falling off our garden, some debris... perhaps this is mid-TS grade.

A major typhoon heading towards the country's second biggest metro area and several regions isn't getting enough coverage. I don't see the special coverage they give much weaker storms. Quite disappointing.

Odd
Most of the news stuff I'm seeing is from yesterday or 12 hours ago and such

Getting really bad out here... and it's still over S. Leyte. Suspecting some of these gusts might be hitting typhoon force. Power failures starting all over the island already

Stay safe out there
This thing looks really bad
Such an odd intensity at this time of the year
First an early strong storm, now a late one
The WPAC really decided to go out with a bang this year

The PAGASA AWS in Maasin City just recorded a SLP of 950.5 mb at 6pm PhT (converted from station pressure of 936.6 mb at an elevation of 129m).

For days, the HWRF has been forecasting an EWRC to try and start around the time of Rai’s first landfall. Impressive that it was able to predict structural changes like that so far in advance.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I remember back in 2017 Southern Leyte and Biliran were also devastated by a late-season tropical storm, Kai-tak. Hopefully Kai being a lot stronger than Kai tak won't translate to heavier damages.
